Ohio Resident Educator Program

The Ohio Resident Educator (RE) Program is a two-year induction program designed to provide support and professional development for new teachers as they begin their careers in Ohio’s schools. Created by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, the program focuses on mentorship, instructional growth, and successful transition into the teaching profession.

At the Lawrence County ESC, we proudly support our local school districts and Resident Educators by facilitating a high-quality program that nurtures confident, skilled, and reflective educators.

Program Structure

The updated two-year Resident Educator Program includes:

  • Year 1:
Resident Educators are paired with a certified mentor to support instructional practices, classroom management, and professional growth. Through regular collaboration and goal setting, teachers build a strong foundation for a successful teaching career.
  • Year 2:
Resident Educators complete the Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA)—a performance-based assessment that evaluates their ability to reflect on and improve their teaching practices. Ongoing mentor support continues through the RESA process and throughout the year.
